We’re delighted to welcome Emma Middleton to Masons Rural team as a Rural Business Advisor and Consultant specialising in Management Accounts, Bookkeeping and Payroll.

Emma got in touch with Masons Rural Managing Director Simon Williams having read his article on the importance of real time accounts information for decision making. She shares his view that farmers need timely access to accurate figures to make well-informed choices, whether that’s the day to day running of the farm, or diversification projects.

“Simon’s words resonated with me and reflected what I was seeing in my work with clients. In times of such uncertainty for the agricultural sector with changes to payment schemes and price rises across energy and materials, it is vital to have absolute clarity on the figures.” says Emma.

Having grown up in rural Lincolnshire on the Vestbirk family farm at Ashby Puerorum, Emma is perfectly placed to understand the needs of Masons Rural clients. Many Lincolnshire farming families will be familiar with the Vestbirk name from Emma’s father Hans, who was a well-known and respected Agricultural Consultant in the county.

Following in her father’s agricultural footsteps, Emma studied Agriculture at Newcastle, gaining a BSc (Hons) before taking a job with Deloitte, in Cambridge. There, she gained accountancy qualifications and invaluable business accounts experience, working for a wide variety of clients for the leading global financial advisory firm,

Emma left Deloitte to return to her native Lincolnshire where she worked for established local accountancy firm Duncan & Toplis for 5 years. She then married a farmer and set up her own consultancy to fit around her three children and family life. The Middletons live on a mixed farm in Lincolnshire with free range hens, suckler cows and some arable, so Emma shares many of the issues and opportunities facing farmers in her own life.

Emma brings 14 years’ consultancy experience of specialist agricultural bookkeeping and management accounts to the Masons Rural team. She has worked on accounts across all aspects of the agri-sector from livestock to arable farms in different sizes.

“Having Emma on the team means that our clients will benefit from bespoke individual help whatever their size of farm businesses,” says Simon. “From a simple review to create a financial snapshot to ongoing monthly bookkeeping, Emma is here to support our clients with deep understanding of their sector.”

Emma is available to work individually or alongside other members of Masons Rural team on projects that support diversification, grant or planning applications. Her expertise will help our clients to stabilise and grow.
