The end of the year offers the perfect time to reflect. Here we look at what's been achieved by Masons Rural team running Lincolnshire’s weekly auction of cattle and sheep.

In addition to the Monday weekly auctions, we’ve showcased and sold some of Lincolnshire’s best livestock for local farmers at our successful annual shows and sales of sheep and cattle. This includes the popular “Partney Fair” on 8th August 2022 which saw record numbers of MV and Non MV sheep entered with a total of 1232 sheep sold. Plus our 1st Autumn Special Show of Suckled Calves and Store Cattle on 7th October 2022.

Once again, we ended the year on a high, running our regular Monday weekly auction throughout December right up until our 19th sale of prime, store, breeding cattle and sheep. The December sales followed on from our 93rd Annual Fatstock Show & Sale on Monday 28th November with the celebratory Fatstock Annual Dinner at Kenwick Golf Club on Friday 2nd December 2022.

Fatstock is a historic event for Louth Livestock Market. One that goes back well over 150 years. It is an annual fundraiser for local charities and an important social event that brings the entire market community together with vendors, buyers, hauliers, local businesses, agricultural charities, and farming families uniting. The timing of the annual festive show and sale enables local butchers to source their prime produce so that they can offer their customers the very best locally reared beef and lamb for their Christmas table.

We’re incredibly grateful to our 2022 sponsors for their continued support of all 17 classes from our Champions to the Best Sausage Roll! Huge thanks go to Agriscope, Woldmarsh, Forrester Boyd, Peacock & Binnington, Rix, Agrimin, Wilkin Chapman, G F P / Belmont Seeds, and Phillips Animal Health Ltd. Fatstock is run by a committee and has long been backed by local businesses.

We’re also very grateful to this year’s judges; David Wright for Cattle, Alan Peck for Sheep and Adam Garnade for choosing his pick of the produce. As well as Alan and David for getting their heads together to choose Best Presented & Young Stockperson.

As soon as we have a final fundraising figure for this year’s charities Lincolnshire Rural Support Network and Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance we’ll update this page. Fatstock is organised and arranged by committee including Russell Jeanes, Richard Crust, Keith Blakely, and Oliver Chapman, our 24-year-old Livestock Auctioneer.

Oliver deserves a special mention this year for achieving recognition as one of The Lincolnite’s 30 under 30 for his vital role in building the success and status the market and supporting the region’s farming community.

Louth Livestock Market has grown into a vibrant hub for local livestock, attracting vendors and buyers from all over Lincolnshire as well as neighbouring counties. Monday’s auction now regularly achieves some of the highest weekly prices in the country for local farmers.

This year we’ve integrated the Louth Market website into Masons and Partners as we move towards a fully digital system for 2023 with our Sales & Event Calendar, Entry Forms & Catalogues and Market Reports all available online for convenience and to save paper. We continue to grow the social media reach and Oliver’s Monday night market report video is among the most popular Facebook posts.

Thank you all for your continued support every week as we continue to grow as a hub for local farmers and a vibrant place to meet and connect. We believe in bringing high quality locally and sustainably reared field to fork produce to Lincolnshire butchers, chefs and restaurants and want to help secure our county’s reputation as an exceptional food producer.
