DEFRA has launched the Animal Health and Welfare Infrastructure Grant for Calf Housing. This grant offers funding between £15,000 and £500,000 for large infrastructure projects to improve animal health and welfare.

Initially, the grant is available for cattle keepers to co-fund new and upgraded calf housing that enhances social contact and the ambient environment. This will help farmers produce healthier and more resilient calves while also preparing farm buildings for climate change.

Additionally, livestock farmers can apply for funding towards rooftop solar PV installation on the co-funded calf housing. DEFRA recommends consulting your vet before applying, as you can receive a fully funded Annual Health and Welfare Review through the Pathway program.
