Masons Chartered Surveyors is now a family-run, long established firm with 165 years of experience and expertise in advising clients on their property matters.
We are confident that we keep up with the challenges of the modern property agency and professional practice but believe we have also managed to retain the traditional and professional values which clients expect of a long established firm.
The firm however was started over 165 years ago by William Ludlum Mason and has been in the market town of Louth ever since. The firm grew and grew and as more partners joined the firm by the 1960’s had become Mason Fuller Chatterton & Haxby.
In 1970 David Williams joined the partnership having been articled (old word for training position) with the firm from 1967 after moving from North Wales. At that time the firm name was shortened to Masons. In 1983 the firm joined up with George Mawer & Co of Market Rasen and Wragby and Robert Bell & Co of Horncastle and Conningsby to form the firm Mawer, Mason & Bell. The firm had a large estate agency presence locally with thirteen partners and seven offices. This proved an attractive proposition to Building Societies and the business was sold to The Leeds Permanent Building Society in 1998. That business was subsequently bought by the Halifax Building Society and traded as Halifax Property Services.
In 1996 David Williams and his wife Patricia were offered the Louth office back and started trading as two sole trader businesses in October of that year. David trading as Masons Chartered Surveyors doing Agricultural work and the Livestock market and Patricia Williams doing the lettings and management she is so well known for. Their son Simon joined his father in 2000 and became a partner in 2003, Russell Jeanes joined them two years later.
In 2007 Patricia took the first steps to retirement and sold her lettings and management business to Masons Chartered Surveyors which now offers a wide range of property advisory services.
