PRESS RELEASE

PLANNING CONSULTATION AT THE MARKET

Tuesday 12th June 2018, 5pm – 7pm

“Finding a Sustainable Future”

We will be holding a Public Planning Consultation Meeting to discuss the future of the market and a proposed change of use.

We invite all local residents, stakeholders and market users to join us in the Cattle Store Ring on our Newmarket Site from 5pm where we will present and provide the latest developments and plans.

We are likely now to enter into a new lease, which has been the subject of a great deal of scrutiny and publicity in recent years.  ELDC Councillors are looking to generate more revenue from the site, and have the opportunity to look favourably on a proposal to widen the scope of the site uses, subject to planning consent.

After the Council decision in October 2017 to save the site and reinvest in it, we are working with organisations who specialise in utilising Market spaces and events, who have vast experience in creating plans that work in the long term which include a range of wider uses, particularly in utilising existing previously developed space, to create new opportunities and provide space for other business people and organisations that would like to use the site.

We hope to make the Market site a thriving destination which would have wider economic benefits for the town centre, and hope that supporters will join us at this Public Meeting where they will be able to hear up to date plans and complete our consultation survey on the evening.

Simon Williams said “we have been delighted by the tremendous support and interest to regenerate our market, and by all the assistance in ‘Finding a Sustainable Future’.  Lincolnshire is a solid farming county and we are excited with the opportunity to continue the market and our essential service to the rural community together with implementing a long term solution for the market and realise its potential after so many years of uncertainty.”

ABOUT LOUTH LIVESTOCK MARKET

Louth Livestock market has operated in the town for over 100 years and is run by two local property firms Masons and Willsons, who trade in partnership as Louth Market Auctioneers.  The market serves a large rural area, in which arable farming dominates but the vendors and buyers who come to Louth value the market's role in their farming community.  We also believe firmly in the role a livestock market, run with strong professional values and financially regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
